^have you tried firechat?
It's interface needs work, but it's capable of sending messages on practically any antenna your device has, and will use other devices as relays. Used it at a couple NCSU football games back before 4G. 9/11/2018 10:47:31 PM

Yes. It forms a self contained mesh network that fails over to cell/wifi if found. But the self contained is it's strength and weakness. Dozen users in the student section and everyone can talk without backhaul. Across town without backhaul... Isn't likely.
Basically you need nodes within range of 50-100 yards. Likely to work in an apartment complex or townhouses, not a neighborhood.

Hurricanes.gov is the NHC site. It's pretty straight forward.
A lot of people really like spaghettimodels.com too. You kinda start figuring out everything that's going in. His facebook is Mike's Weather Page. Hes pretty cool and will do live updates occasionally.
I dont know if that helps or not! 9/11/2018 11:08:52 PM

Riding it out in the New Bern area. I'm expecting a similar experience that we saw in Bertha or Fran (in MY area, in terms of destruction and rainfall), not so much the Hazel that was suggested. I just don't see this being historical in any category. We shall see.

I believe the point of eye landfall wherever it is in NC will be historic...Those winds and prolonged rain/flooding hasnt been seen in awhile. The storm surge alone will be bad.

So the cone is again updated a little more to the west than last time. I was looking over some of the previous bad storms that hit the state, like Hugo and Fran, and both of them hit the coast in nearly a vertical south-->north track. Seems like the storms that come northwards up the coast have a history of fucking our shit up more than storms that come in from a more lateral. Hopefully that holds true with Florence. 9/12/2018 2:27:03 AM

^^i'd imagine if anything it would be more localized power outages like you get with bad thunderstorms than widespread loss*, but who knows and we're still within the cone so we could still get a direct hit
(*assuming it follows that path)

wind was always going to be a factor...but with the storm slowing significantly once it makes landfall, the flooding and crazy rainfall totals were projecting to be awful. but wind was (and is) a factor. 9/12/2018 9:07:04 AM

Stay safe. Hopefully you're nowhere near the river, because all that water definitely won't be flowing away from you if/when the storm surge hits...

How from are you from the Crystal Coast? I wouldn't want to be anywhere near Wilmington, or the OBX for that matter. It's all going to be underwater unless something dramatic happens...
