went to the range with 9one9 it was the cobra demo day.

i have last years F speed driver. and this years F speed LD is not one i like at all. sounds like crap. but its much harder to hit. i had a better time hitting the X speed driver. which i want but the trade in on my club is like $70 or so. so forget it, ill stick with my F speed.

i want to go play dangit

Played Knight's Play tonight - except for the tee boxes, the course was in really good shape - very pleasantly surprised.

Crooked Creek is in good shape. I hate the back 9 on that course but its only 20 bucks to walk. Shot a 78 earlier this week but played again to day and shot 72 from the black tees. Its not a terribly long course. I easily turned a 66 into one over today cause I couldnt hit a wedge from 110 yards and in outside of 8 feet but i also couldnt putt to save my life. Also had 3 penalty strokes Not a bad round considering the bad putter and errant driver.

I missed a 6 footer for birdie on the last hole to shoot even...didnt even touch the hole.

Will be there next week, awesome that Tiger is in. The last three holes at Quail Hollow are harder than any on tour. 18 is just brutal.

I went 5, 4, 8 to shoot 81 there from basically the tips on the last 3 holes. You're not kidding.

birdies hole 10 at knightsplay..

the tee shot landed far left off of the green, down that hill.... chipped it and it went past the flag on the hill and just rolled down into the hole.

by far my longest/coolest chip in ever.

I'm going golfing tomorrow and I'm in need of suggestions on where to go

I've been to Knight's Play, RGA, and Wake Forest CC and I want to go somewhere new

I'm looking to play 18 with a cart for under $35

I was looking at River Ridge: http://www.golfriverridge.com/Update/rates.html

It looks real nice and has a nice discount for students ($35 for cart fees, green fees and, range balls)

Has anyone gone there and what are your thoughts?

And what are some other nice places that are cheap?

DAMN MAN, what do you expect?

$30 will cover the green fees and a cart.

I'm playing @ Crooked Creek on Friday afternoon. I took a half day to play with my three best friends and my dad.

Its been said in every golf thread but needs reiteration; Crooked Creek is a fantastic challenge for the average golfer. the front nine = grip & rip, the back 9 = PLACEMENT, PLACEMENT, PLACEMENT.

There are ~4 holes on the back 9 that will break you (and your scorecard) if you try to kill it, especially #'s 12 (the worst hole on the course), 13, & 18. Real doozies.

I used to work at CC right when it opened. back when the pro shop was a mobile home. Now its a damn hotel looking pro shop. If you see Old man Johnny or Jay (the pro there), you can get a discount if you tell 'em Panthro sent ya!

I don't expect much for $30 but I would like to take a look at where I'm playing

I'll probably go there then

And I will say Panthro sent me

[Edited on May 1, 2007 at 7:36 PM. Reason : Anyone been to River Ridge though? It looks real nice and the reviews have been great.]

student price is

$14 for 9holes with cart
$23 for 18holes with cart

great course for me (guy who doesnt play a lot, but is not really a beginner).

BTT...Just got back from Eagle Ridge and it was great. Will play there again.

I shot pretty good today and birdied 18.

Had a tee shot that went ~270 yards and laid about 20 yards in front of the water in the middle of the fairway.

I then shot a 5 from the remaining 170 yards that stuck in the middle of the green a good distance away from the cup.

I totally was going to be happy 2 putting it in for par but I had a beautiful first putt from a good distance away that went it.

Great way to end the day especially since I don't birdie very often at all.

hedingham or crooked creek?

This may not be much of an accomplishment to some of you guys on here, but I'm a consistent mid to low 80's guy who's never broken 80, had a bunch of chances, but something would get in my head during the last 3 or 4 holes and I'd totally shit the bed...but I fired a 75 today at Eagle Ridge, and I'm damn proud.

In all realness

Where should someone go who is honestly just learning the game?!?!? I've gone to driving ranges before and played in fundraisers (captain's choice type stuff), but I've never played 18 on my own.

If you have any ideas I would greatly appreciate it! I've been completely obsessed the past few months and now my internship is working with a golf tourney so I just wanna learn

If you want to try a longer course, try Brevofield in Wake Forest. It is not very nice (no cart girls so bring your own beer), but it is cheap. It is pretty open and there aren't many water hazards to loose balls in.

go out with a friend who knows the game... then you will learn the basics.

or you can goto most any driving range or course and they have instructors on hand and you can set something up there.

is it just me, or is the HD on certain views of the players' championship really crappy? the close up and overhead shots look really good, but the shots from the behind the player looking down the fairway at the green and gallery look awful

Sean O'Hair will not forget hole #17 anytime soon.

Still can't figure out why he was hitting 9-iron when he hits it as far as Phil...when under pressure you want to hit it hard with a wedge, not baby a 9.

Eagle ridge used to be my favorite course until I played The Preserve at Jordan lake. I love that course, beautiful layout, and a good challenge as well.

The only thing that pisses me off is that they don't give NCSU students a discount, only UNC Students get it, but you can find good deals to play there through lastminutegolfer.com.

So I hit this old guy's King Cobra 440SZ R-Flex shaft and had to toe it in a tad to get it straight down the fairway... I really liked the club once I figured that out...

Can I change the shaft to alter the need for a toe-in?

i dont think you can. any bend in the shaft would weaken it. but i dont know im not a clubsmith.

call up dicks and ask, or call up some different ranges that do club fitting.

the 440SZ is nice. my dad had one, he loved it, i got him the cobra 454 comp and gave the 440SZ to 9one9..

i used the 440SZ before i got my set and i loved it, thats what made my get a king cobra set.

just get a new shaft thats a little stiffer and take it to a club fitter to replace it.
