Finished the bedding in process for the front brakes on the Lexus... Thank you K-Mart parking lot

The brakes felt pretty confident, up until the 7th time I did a hard stop from 60-10. They started to feel a little soft and was not as responsive on the initial bite when I would get on the brake. I finished driving home, let it cool down for about 45 minutes and drove back to work. When I pulled into the parking lot at work, the brakes felt better than normal, very responsive bite, smooth, no squeeling (was still squeeling a little while coming to a complete stop or braking slower than 10mph). For a daily driving saloon, it's absolutely wonderful...

I just got Mickey Thompson All Terrains and a leveling kit put on my truck a few weeks ago. It looks amazing! Got Tinted windows and Flows too.
I am not sure if I want to do anything else to it.

^^ My co-worker's 15 year old tacoma had those same tires and they've clocked about 120k miles iirc. They're bald now and he's deciding whether to get a cheap set since the tacoma might be for sale in a year or so or hang on to the truck for another 120k.

haha, i'd go through a good dozen sets of tires over that many miles.

Tonight:

-JB Welded my coolant reservoir on the Z06. The fitting where the hose attaches was cracked.
-Started removing the EBCM so I can ship it off to be rebuild (so as to resolve my intermittant ABS/TC/stability control failure). I got everything removed except for 2 bolts that my Torx bit was too wide to reach. I'll have to go buy a Torx driver (or probably just a whole set) tomorrow so I can finish removing it.

fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck

stripped the head out of the last Torx bolt holding on my electronic brake control module (EBCM). I don't think there's enough room to get a drill in there to remove it with an EZ-Out, at least not without removing a whole bunch of shit in the engine bay.

^^ dremel a slot into the top of the bolt and use an impact screwdriver, if you can get it in there

unfortunately, it's the middle bolt, recessed in one of those slotted areas on the side.

i'm gonna see if i can attach an EZ-out to a T-handle or something and turn it by hand.

Finished removing that EBCM. Managed to get that Torx bolt out with a Grab-It. Now I can send it off to be refurbished, costing me $100 instead of $1500 at the dealer.

Installed an AirDog II lift pump on the common rail to solve a no start/dead lift pump issue. only after installing the new one, I find out the original problem was (most likely)the fuel pump fuse all along

shipped the 'Vette's EBCM off yesterday to be rebuilt. Taped off the area where it attaches under the hood today, and reinstalled the stuff I had removed to get to it. That way, I can drive the car while waiting for the EBCM to be returned.

BMW is at a shop in Durham getting a 450w charging system, digital ignition, stiffer fork springs, new rear tire, and an oil/filter change.

GP1300R is at a shop in New Bern getting a throttle position sensor, a new impeller, and a paint job.

so what was supposed to be just a front brake pad replacement has just turned into new rotors and new pads on the front and back and a complete brake fluid flush

I've got to wait 2 weeks for the rotors though. Until then my car will probably remain on jackstands

Took off the hood pad and painted the logo that was imprinted on it.

Also hunting down some new tires, maybe trying out Kumho Ecsta XS (Extreme Performance Summer). Will save ~$500 vs Michelin PS2s

I'd be careful putting cheap tires on traction limited vehicles

you need as much traction as you can get for a reason

tires are cheaper than body work and hospital stays and insurance deductibles

From what I've read on the viper forums, kumhos are actually sticker & softer than ps2s. Just need replaced sooner

Replaced the following on my '90 Cherokee 4.0 in the last 2 weeks: water pump, harmonic balancer, front main seal, front pinion shaft seal, front and rear diff. fluid, and got it aligned (thanks, gower's.).
next up rebuild the both rear brakes since the rr wheel cylinder is leaking.
also, plans on having zxappeal change timing belt and water pump on wife's highlander.

^^ Yeah, Kumho makes some good tires. Not sure about that exact model, but C&D actually rated one of their tires above the PS2. I run Nitto NT05s on my Z06--I like them much better than the Pilot Sports (not PS2) that were on it when I bought it--and you can get a set shipped to your door--in Z06 sizes--for about $700.

____________

I got the 'Vette's EBCM back from being rebuilt. Cost $50, plus about $20 total in shipping. Way better than the $1500 or so for the Chevy dealer to fix it. Reinstalled it tonight; all the caution lights are now extinguished. Hopefully it'll all work right when I test drive it.

Took the Lexus to get some touch ups on the tint. Pete at TVP couldn't help me because he doesn't carry the ceramic tint anymore (too many problems with ghosting, as was the issue with two of my windows), but his new facility is pretty nice. Waiting for him to order more and replace the driver's side windows as well as fix a corner on the rear window...

*le sigh*

I poured a little gas down a vacuum line under the carburetor on my truck to get it to crank. It was easier than taking the breather off. The truck normally does fine but sometimes the automatic choke is aggravating.

respooled the winch cable after fixing it, aired the tires up, tightened up the pitman arm nut realized one of my rear lower control arms bushings is TOTALLY shot, gonna need to get around to fixing that also.
