1. It's good to have a luchador or two for entertainment. (Since they don't take tags seriously anyway, I don't get why they don't have a luchador tag team.)
2. In addition to being the #1 Mexican in the company, he was #2 for kids behind Cena.
3. He was actually very important for the show. When they took him off once and put him on Raw the ratings collapsed. They looked into it and realized that Mexicans were a huge part of Smackdown's audience. It didn't recover to the level it should have when they moved him back.
4. If you hate the Alberto del Rio as a face push, you can put it on Rey Mysterio no longer being around.

Trivia question from elsewhere: there've been two wrestlers that have had matches in all of the following. Who are they?

WWF/WWE
WCW
ECW
TNA
Ring of Honor
Smoky Mountain Wrestling (SMW)

Another interesting note... Shaemus wrestled the dark match with his shirt on... I'm guessing to hide the welts. Those things looked nasty in pics

Jerry Lynn is one.

Apparently had a WWF match in 2001 after they bought WCW and ECW. The other is not Raven, although the person that put it together said this:

Quote :
"•Raven (was not in SMW?) - there's discussion in the thread because he was at a joint NWA/SMW show in Philadelphia and wrestled Mr. Smoky Mountain himself Dirty White Boy...."

Not a wrestler per se (so not guy #2 that fits the question), but Jim Cornette has been in all six in form or another.

So...despite Vegeta's best efforts last night, I don't think Dracula is finished. Still, it's good to see the Drac Pack falling apart on their own, because it doesn't look like Vamphound has the balls to do anything about them.

Raw sucked. I think this PPV is not going to do well.

Ziggler is out with a concussion still, so they changed the 3-way ladder match for the world title to Swagger vs. del Rio in a #1 contender's match.

Announced a bunch of matches, Ambrose vs. Kofi for the U.S. title, the other 2 Shield members vs. Kane & Daniel Bryan for the tag titles in a tornado match.

That Raw was practically unwatchable.

With that said, each and every show Dean Ambrose is demonstrating that he's a goddamn superstar.

...and now they're giving him the U.S. title

Extreme Rules:

Quote :
"Pre-show: The Miz vs. Cody Rhodes

1: Alberto Del Rio vs. Jack Swagger - "I Quit" match for the #1 Contendership to the World Heavyweight Championship

2: John Cena (c) vs. Ryback - Last Man Standing match for the WWE Championship

3: Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H - Steel Cage match

4: Sheamus vs. Mark Henry - Strap match

5: Randy Orton vs. Big Show - Extreme Rules match

6: Chris Jericho vs. Fandango

7: Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Dean Ambrose - Singles match for the United States Championship

8: Team Hell No (Daniel Bryan and Kane) (c) vs. The Shield (Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins) - Tornado Tag Team match for the Tag Team Championship"

well we all knew it was going to happen. The Shield had to have gold in order to keep their momentum. I'd like to see them win both matches and take the US and Tag titles. It firmly establishes Ambrose as the outright leader and gives Rollins and Reigns a division to run through while still letting the three of them handicap the other's matches in their favor.

maybe this will also help legitimize the US Championship some as well instead of just using it (and Cesaro) as a jobber to the stars

^I feel that way for every non-title match that the titleholder loses, which I guess has been 2-3 months now. It feels like Orton has fought Barrett or Cesaro every Raw since the beginning of the year.

People say, "Wrestling is different now, and people want to see stars in every match."

I firmly believe you could have shorter shows, a nice stable of jobbers, and the occasional star vs. star match on free TV like they used to and the product would be a lot better and more enjoyable.

You'd have to concoct less weird finishes to protect people, swerves would feel fresher when they do happen, and a credible midcard and undercard could really be established, because there's no shortage of guys who can really go but need seasoning in the WWE style.

For instance, Daniel Bryan's match against Jericho when he was an NXT rookie was a great match that people remember. Made Bryan look great (because he can go), didn't hurt Jericho, and people loved it.

It's entirely possible I'm oversimplifying, but I'm tired of the same shit every week where the matches are mediocre AND they make someone look bad AND the crowd gets bored AND they don't add anything to storyline.

That's what ROH television is. Admittedly ROH is much lower on the totem pole than Raw and is only an hour-long show. (You can watch ROH TV in Raleigh on channel 8 Saturday nights.) Unfortunately Sinclair doesn't own a TV station in the city I now live.

I'm not necessarily advocating workrate television, though, and the production value of WWE is a good thing and has its place.

I also think two hours is the right time to do as much as a WWE show has to do, too. In an era where a 30 minute show isn't even 23 minutes any more, you need time to let the show breathe.

INSTANT REPLAY!

The Shield wins the tag titles.

Sheamus wins the strap match over Henry. Bit of a bullshit finish as Sheamus touched three corners and then Henry got him up for the World's Strongest Slam so Sheamus' "forward momentum" was stopped, but he gets out of it, gives the brogue kick, and touches the 4th corner for the win.

Dusty finish in Swagger-del Rio. Del Rio was in the ankle lock and Ricardo teased throwing in the towel, del Rio tells him not to, Colter scares off Ricardo, and throws in the towel when the ref's not looking and quickly runs. Ref declares Swagger the winner, then the 2nd ref comes out and says what happens, ref looks at an INSTANT REPLAY~!, and restarts the match. Swagger quits.

Orton punted Big Show in the head to win their match.

Cena-Ryback next. They're making Lesnar-HHH the main event.

Cena-Ryback.

That ended the match as both men were knocked out and immobile backstage after this. Call it a no contest, call it a draw, whatever, Cena's still the champ though.

Lesnar-HHH. HHH camoflauged a sledgehammer at the top of the cage. Pulled it down mid-match. HHH was about to use it when Lesnar got up and Heyman (who had come into the ring beforehand and got pedigreed) gave HHH a low blow. Lesnar at the end of the match took the sledgehammer to HHH's jaw and then F5'd HHH in the middle for the win. Lesnar faked a knee injury early on in the match.

The Shield are entertaining, but they don't make up enough of the program to make it watchable. If you can figure out when they're on and tune in for that segment it's worth it, but not at the expense of watching 3 hours of thrown together tag matches and title holders not named Cena jobbing out.

fun match between Sheamus and Titus O'Neil, they let Titus have a lot and the match went awhile

Paul Heyman had a good long-winded promo and introduced his newest client "Curt Axel", which is Michael McGillicutty with a new name. He has a remixed Mr. Perfect theme because he is Curt Hennig's real-life son, and they want you to know that, but they don't want to give him the name Hennig because then they don't own the name if he goes somewhere else.

And HHH comes out, smacks him to the ground, and they'll have a match later. Exhibit 45 in why no one gets over.

"Miz and Jericho team up tonight against Fandango and Barrett...wow.

Over 170 million vids are viewed on WWE's site, Hulu, and THE WWE APP! Then they did some bizarre Sonic shake product placement deal. Summer's yellow dress really brought out her tan nicely. They showed a few fans Fandangoing, and one girl just making devil horns to do it. Barrett has a new theme with chanting and a hard rock sound to it. I demand this hit iTunes right now. They made Barrett-Cara for Main Event - nice of them to hype that up at all. Shame they didn't show Sin Cara winning despite talking about it. They'll show guys talking on the app, but not that. They talked about Ryback bullying Josh ON THE APP during the break, then showed Road Dogg talking to hype up the app. Did you know it's the new way to watch TV?

They came back from a break with the usual chinlock from Barrett. Then Fandango abandoned Barrett to dance. They did a bunch of stuff - nothing dangerous thank God since it was impossible to pay attention to the match. Miz won with the figure four after a Codebreaker. Why? I have no idea other than to set up maybe a 4-way for the IC Title with Miz, Fandango, Cara, and Barrett. Miz and Jericho went after Fandango, who left Summer and danced seductively with Jericho, who is old enough to be her dad. Luckily, Jericho told her off and this ended without too much quirkiness."

"HHH came out, and of course, they brought up him getting hit in the jaw with the sledgehammer. Apparently, HE HAD TROUBLE CHEWING earlier. Didn't seem to affect his ability to cut a long, wacky jokey promo earlier though. Weird to see HHH in there with a guy who has Benoit-esque slash marks on his gear. Axel's got a scar on his stomach that is distracting. Could've done without HHH dominating from the start, but I loved HHH's big left-right combo. Weird to see such rapid-fire offense from him. Bret-esque elbows from Axel, but with a unique spin to them. Axel got some offense. HHH dominated. Dominated some more. JBL talked about HHH trying to shake something off WHILE HE KICKED HIS ASS. HHH sold extreme fatigue, making me think we'll get a finish ala HBK. It would be fitting given that he was in a medical room surrounded by brain stuff earlier. HHH took a break, got some water and it actually prevented him from kicking more ass. The doc said he couldn't continue. BUT BY GOD, HHH WANTED TO KICK MORE ASS until he fell down. And then he just kept doing stuff and the show ended. This was weird."

No Cena at all tonight.

It's time for the Shield, Kane, and Daniel Bryan to move on to something else, but these Shield-Team Hell No series of matches since WrestleMania have really been a lot of fun.

Orton & Sheamus beat Rhodes Scholars on the show (4 tag matches! counting the divas), and they had a short blurb making it seem like that's the next Shield tag titles program.

They booked a Cena-Curtis Axel main event, which screamed "not a clean finish" alert. An ambulance drove out mid-match, Cena went to it, got counted out (they're giving Axel the "bullshit wins over top guys" push), and jumped by Ryback post-match.

Ooh, Punk's returning at the next PPV in 3 weeks...in Chicago, and he'll be facing Jericho.
