Quote :
"C.M. PUNK VS. CHRIS JERICHO

This was close to a match of the year. Punk won with two Go to sleep's after tons of punches to the back of the head in breaking up a full Boston crab and then a half crab. They pulled out all the stops and the crowd was as hot as any match anywhere this year with the possible exception of the Undertaker match at Mania. Punk was the face of course, and Jericho did worked as a subtle heel but not as overtly as Del Rio. Paul Heyman was with Punk all the way through. Tons of near falls, with Jericho kicking out of the first GTS and Punk kicking out of the codebreaker. "

Everything on the show was entertaining. I liked AJ/Kaitlyn a lot, which was nice to see after they had one of the best Divas segments in years on Raw.

Congrats to Joe Hennig on winning his dad's belt on Father's Day.

On the bright side, heel Del Rio is back.

(What's it say for WWE when so many of their wrestlers are better as heels than faces? Anything? Who's going to be the faces besides Daniel Bryan?)

MarK henry is the greatest showman ever. and there's NO reason he shouldn't have the belt over Cena.

I love ever minute of it. That's how I want to retire

Damn good Raw after a damn good PPV.

With that said, it would've been a spectacular two hour Raw.

BTW, that entire Henry segment was awesome, but special LOLs for Cena saying he'll never again be caught off guard by a challenger, at which point he is immediately caught off guard by a challenger.

He came down, gave a teary-eyed speech about how he'll be able to see his wife and kids more often. Thanked the crowd for being awesome, talked about how he's had a good career. Cena came in the ring to hand him the belt for a feel-good moment, then held Henry's hand up in a "one more time for the big fella (/sheamus)" and when he went in for the hug, Henry scooped him up and slammed him. Post-slam, he barked at Cena and said he's got a bunch left in the tank and he's taking the title soon.

The injury to Bryan last night was legit and was a stinger. The more interesting thing is he was supposed to win.

^ yea it's almost like if we tell completely told the truth about something, we believe it will destroy the fabric of civilization . matter of fact that's how history works.

that reminds me of Stone Cold who broke his neck in the middle of the match with Owen Hart and was paralyzed for a couple of minutes. But Stone Cold was scheduled to win and could not lose to Owen,a heel, under no circumstance. so he recovered enough to get onto his knees and roll on Owen Hart for the count. unreal.

^ The epitome of that to me is Lesnar in the main event of Wrestlemania completely botching a shooting star press and landing on his head. Angle picked him up and pretty much told him "F5" and Lesnar could do that to win the match, but he might've had no idea where he was at then.

Can you imagine a legit injury in the main event of Wrestlemania changing the finish?

Week 1 Bound for Glory Series Results:

Mr. Anderson pinned Joseph Park after Aces & Eights interference.
Austin Aries was face for a night and pinned Jay Bradley.
Christopher Daniels pinned Hernandez after a low blow.
Magnus submitted Frankie Kazarian with a Texas cloverleaf.
Samoa Joe and A.J. Styles went to a 15-minute time limit draw. Best match of the six.
Jeff Hardy pinned Bobby Roode in the wrestling main event.

Points work out:

Quote :
"Submission win - 10 points
Pinfall win - 7 points
Countout win - 5 points
Draw - 2 points
Disqualification win - 2 points
Loss - 0 points
Disqualification loss - minus 10 points"

So MAGNUS~! is on top.

Sting has donned a suit and tie, lost the face paint, has new (good) theme music, as part of heading up his new Main Event Mafia group, and confronted Bully Ray in the ring. He has Kurt Angle with him and probably a couple more guys over the next few weeks.

Not really current, but Ivan Koloff is now an ordained minister and lives in Winterville, NC. We were visiting the in-laws this weekend and went to the Wal-Mart in Williamston to pick up a couple of things and he was at a table signing autographs by the registers. Dude is still pretty ripped for a 70 year old man.

It's not exactly a sport/entertainment vehicle that lends itself to 100% fan dignity.

I notice they put those words on separate signs, if they tried to put it all on one WWE would've taken away the sign at the door.

In other news, holy hell Raw was a 180 from last week. Not the worst ever by any stretch, but the Punk segment was too long for a setup and backstory we already know, and the Bryan match was long and had a very weird rhythm just to get to a finish we've been expecting for two weeks.

Also, we didn't talk about the fact that Striker got fired. I know he didn't fit what they were trying to do with the shows, but I'll sure as hell miss his awesomely random dips into history ("Shades of the Jumping Bomb Angels!").

if you're in the mood for something different, from the New Japan PPV over the weekend:

Hirooki Goto vs. Katsuyori Shibata

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiLz2HDJ0mY

(the sound is off for sections of pre-match and post-match but works during the match fine)

These two men beat the crap out of one another. Goto is the one with the mustache. He's kind of like what Ted Dibiase in the WWF was in the late '80s/early '90s of the guy that's good enough to be champion but hasn't been the champ yet. Shibata was brought in with Kazushi Sakuraba when Sakuraba finally retired from MMA and went back to his pro wrestling roots, so Shibata's gimmick is that he's a stiff shooter.

Also, if you know who Prince Devitt is (an American analogy would be Daniel Bryan), he won himself a title shot defeating Tanahashi. Devitt's become a heel and is leading a foreigner faction.

WWE issued a statement...

UPDATE: WWE has now issued a statement about the passing of Matt Borne.

They wrote: "Reports indicate that Matt Osborne, aka Doink the Clown, has passed away. A rugged brawler in promotions like Mid-South Wrestling and World Championship Wrestling, Osborne made a major impact in WWE under the greasepaint of a prankster named Doink — one of the most enduring personas of the early '90s.

WWE is saddened by the news of Osborne's passing. Our deepest condolences go out to Osborne's family, friends and fans.

Original: According to Pwinsider.com, Matt Osbourne, known to wrestling fans as Matt Borne/the original Doink the Clown, has passed away. He was 56. He had been staying in Texas recently, and was found this morning by his girlfriend. More details as they become available.

On behalf of 411, I would like to extend our condolences to the family, friend and fans of Mr. Osbourne.

I wouldn't care much if Raw just sucked.

But after a great PPV and a great Raw, two weeks of pure shit is much harder to take.
