I'm sure the BOG will have an emergency meeting first thing tomorrow to crucify the entire athletic department for that.

This gem from PP:

Quote :
"Knowing how those despicable weasels operate,

my guess is that if, and I mean IF any national pressure arises from the media, NCAA, ACC, other conferences, etc, to the point UNC feels real heat and believes they might get duly punished, they will find a way to twist this whole thing around and manipulate it into a national discussion/rallying cry about the "exploitation" of student-athletes.

It will go something like this....

"This was just our way of repaying in some small way, a debt of gratitude to the student-athletes who have brought so much prestige, prosperity, and honor to the University of North Carolina. Our efforts were a deliberate attempt to quietly rebel against the machinations of self-serving greed that have become an abusive and omnipresent force in the world of collegiate athletics. To condemn our actions is to celebrate the exploitation of unpaid labor by massive corporations interested in nothing but their own bottom line."

And that'll be that. It will become a political issue, and once it does UNC's ubiquitously invasive influence in the political sphere--in Raleigh, DC, and abroad--will ensure that whatever perspective is shaped, it will paint the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as high-minded intellectuals ahead of the curve and saintly fighting injustice.

"

Guys, come on. UNC clearly does not have any systemic issues within its compliance department. All you Wuffies just have nothing better to do with your time.

John Blake steering his players to his agent friend and business partner was just one rogue coach.

And all those football players accepting benefits were just a few bad apples.

And seriously, what university can keep a professor from giving players grades for non-existant classes? Clearly the professor is the only one at fault.

And that tutor writing papers for players, she's been fired. Nothing to see here.

This Fats guy says he has nothing to do with UNC basketball players. A man's word is good enough for me. Let's move on.

I mean even if he did loan a few players some rental cars, who here wasn't loaned a luxury vehicle that costs thousands of dollars to rent from a random adult acquaintance while they were in college. What's the big deal?

It's completely obvious these are all like individual instances that do not point to a larger problem. I don't get what the big deal is.

Looks like the tags on the black Camaro are temp tags from NJ. And Hubert is from NJ. Looks like that might be the only legit one. But he also got a parking ticket on May 28 in it.

[old], but i missed this from the N&O: http://www.newsobserver.com/2013/07/05/3012727/felon-who-rented-car-in-hairston.html

"“We throw parties, for Christ’s sake,” Thomas said when asked how he knew UNC athletes.

"Thomas also told WRAL that cars rented in his name were ticketed on the UNC campus, but he again said Faulcon was likely the one on campus."

Sooooo.... Faulcon managed to get two tickets on UNC's campus on Feb 21st and 22nd...between logging minutes in a 7:30pm game in Richmond on the 20th, and a 4:00pm game in Elizabeth City on the 23rd.

there's a pic of hodge getting into his car at dail after the team flew back after beating uconn in '05 (i was there!). i think it was an old camry or accord, with the original paint peeling. i'm sure some tww-er has that pic stashed away.

I tested the waters a bit, and it turns out this is an extremely touchy subject among Chapel Hill fans. I can't bear the uninformed backtalk about State...so I'm never going to mention or discuss this business in mixed company again. I prefer it when people have to go waaay out of their way to reveal their arrogant delusions.

^But the crying is the best part. I don't know anything but righteous indignation so this is going to be incredible!

[Edited on July 10, 2013 at 1:17 AM. Reason : They really should expand the definition of "mixed company."]

The shoes thing.... Frankly that *could* be nothing. Broke ass mother fuckers in highschool, with no talent, bought shoes like it was their job, and would sell them. Obviously as long as they bought and sold them at fair market value, and werent gifts and the like.

Its worth looking into, but I wouldn't act like its going to bring down a ban hammer.
