I agree, a lot of things need to change. Things like voter ID laws or redrawing district lines need to be fought as long as evidence shows there is no voter fraud. But people need to stop screwing themselves first and foremost because it only hurts them the most and yes they have to have a finger pointed at them if they screw up or they will never succeed and that goes for any race or gender.

I don't fucking get the fight against the Voter ID thing. Sure poor working class folks spend every waking second working or changing diapers for the 7th illegitimate kid but you think in voting was so fucking important they could find 1 in the 250 working days the DMV is open to stand in line and pay the whopping $10 for a fucking NC ID card.

While not an advocate of giving the GOP more votes, this issue is so common sense I don't see a reason not to enact such law. If you can make it to the voting booth, you can make it to the DMV. I'm sure the bums outside of my building in Oregon, have wasted $10 on something they could have foregone in order to purchase their voter ID card.

I guess the voter ID thing is all part of the blubbering liberal PC heart-felt every poor person is a victim of circumstance mentality.

ppl giving a fuck about voter fraud when you literally are given the chance to vote for the same 2 banks in both parties. Where are the people who are angry about candidate fraud?

^^ it's because politicians have been caught saying it disenfranchises voters.

But also because wrapped up in voter id laws are other rules that close or move polling sites, restrict early or absentee voting , end same day voter registration and severely restricts students ability to vote.

The id part of voter id law isn't really that bad, imo.

I can pay my taxes online. Why can't I vote online again? Why do we have this retarded delegate system from 200 years ago? I don't need anyone to 'represent' me at all. I can voice my opinion on reddit to the entire damn planet, the NSA can record every text message that gets sent, we can land a robot on mars but our government isn't capable of building a secure voting system?

Democrats screamed for 8 years that voter fraud kept Gore out of the white house, but now it's nonexistent? There are plenty of examples of voter fraud, and most of them are committed through absentee ballots and corrupt polling officials. Any serious measure to reduce voter fraud will need to restrict absentee ballots and limit polling to places you can manage to supply poll monitors for.

That is exactly the point. There wasn't any then and there isn't any now. The media just makes people flip flop on bullshit arguments that don't really matter. Stopping voting fraud isn't going to keep these fuckers from being your only option: http://assets.bwbx.io/images/iTVKK6C4YhsM/v1/-1x-1.jpg

Gore/Bush had nothing to do with individual voter fraud (the only kind of fraud voter ID targets)

If we actually cared about voter fraud we would look at absentee ballots and require more transparency and accountability in regards to electronic voting, but individual voter fraud is a statistical non-issue

No they didn't.

Now if you had said something like this you'd be on to something:

Quote :
"Democrats screamed for 8 years that deeply flawed anti-voter fraud measures kept Gore out of the white house"

They did if you're a republican.
If you're a democrat then the republicans are doing it now.

Its literally that simple.

No it's not that simple. It wasn't about "voter fraud". It was about "hanging chads" in Florida and the court's decision. It wasn't about "voter fraud" in the context that is being discussed. And the context that the republicans frame it, and the way the republicans are trying to address it.

lol stay mad about it.

The point is our whole system works by dividing people over minutia like this. What we should be doing is making McDonalds and cigarettes illegal not arguing over wether 0.00001% of the votes in the 'general election' (lol) were valid or not.

Lots of people live a long way from the DMV and have no way to get there. On top of that, requiring an ID that costs $10 to vote is a poll tax. Poll taxes are unconstitutional.

Some would consider the requirement to buy private medical insurance and call it a tax also unconstitutional, regardless of what Roberts has said.

Does anyone seriously still believe the constitution is a decent roadmap for a society in this day and age?

No one wants to talk about the 'other persons' part of the constitution, or all the amendments that our founding fathers happened to forget but when your tiny minuscule part of the government that you like almost entirely because of the way you were raised comes into question, suddenly the constitution becomes some biblical prophecy for what American should do. PASS

Write a new one.

A lot of times, in order to obtain that ID card, you'll also need utility bills, birth certificates, other IDs, etc... which aren't readily accessible.

DMV's keep business hours

Some DMV's aren't even open every day

Some people work every single day, and can't get away from their jobs

Some people don't have cars, and are limited to travelling where the bus lines go

Some people are so not well off that $10 is a lot of money. $10 feels like even more if you're -$20K in the hole

I can easily see how a voter ID required to vote is very restrictive if you have no way to get away from your job to go to the DMV, no mode of transport, and no easy man's to gather the documentation and/or funds to secure this ID. Also, as mentioned before, these voter ID laws are often tied to more explicit forms of voter suppression.

Or what the gov should not do. No matter if you lean left or right, allowing gov to increase it's own power will bite us all in the ass one day.

Voter ID laws are not simply worth undermining a Right even if the cost is $10 and Republicans are hypocritical if they want this and claim to be conservative.

Voting is a constitutional right, why does there need to be extra restrictions, in the absence of evidence of a problem?

Shouldn't we be paring back government rules in cases like this? Isn't this the basis of many states rolling back the need for concealed carry permits ("constitutional carry" laws), which so far hasn't resulted in disastrous increases in gun violence.

Why can't we roll back these voter ID and other weird stuff the GOP tacks on to voting to "constitutional voting"?

Hey i'm all for eliminating gerrymandering, providing flexible early/absentee voting, and ensuring there are an appropriate number of convenient polling stations. All things that hurt Republicans.

I just don't buy the heart-felt sob story of the oppressed working poor that can not manage to visit the DMV during 1 of 250 business days or scrap together $10 (although I think NC even proposed making the ID free for under-privileged) for an ID card.

^ but that's not what the constitution says, and since there's no evidence of that type of voter fraud, why make it more difficult for anyone? Youve seen primary elections come down to a single vote, we've seen the razor thin margin that costed Gore the win.

We should be making it as easy as reasonably possible to vote, and given the available data, there's no reason to require an ID.

Yeah, it really shouldn't be a big deal for someone to get an ID, but for some people, albeit a very small number, it IS a big deal. For these people, their government is making their lives harder for no good reason (but the real reason is that the GOP knows this deters some poor people from voting).

Voter ID laws, while realistically having a very small impact, are the embodiment of broken governance.

And the other rules normally tied to voter ID are travesties.

It's not worth the image problem for Republicans so I have no idea why they pursue it. It just makes Republicans hypocrites in this case.

If you can't handle something as easy as maintaining an ID and voting, I honestly have no sympathy.

You have the same opportunity as everyone else to participate... if your poor decisions/incompetence results in such a simple process becoming an insurmountable burden, maybe you shouldn't be voting?

I don't care about equal outcome, as long as everyone has equal opportunity. Natural-Selection via political influence. (*Cue sob-story of infallible victims).
