"Cameron man hit and killed by drunken driver while walking on N.C. 27 last week

A staff report

LILLINGTON - A Cameron man was killed Thursday when he was hit by a drunken driver while walking on N.C. 27 near Johnsonville, the Highway Patrol said.

The driver, Vernon Clayton McCauley Jr., 31, of 200 Love Grove Church Road in Sanford, has been charged with driving while impaired, death by motor vehicle and reckless driving, according to a report filed by Trooper Elvis Barrera.

It happened at 4:50 a.m. about 200 feet from the Pineridge Drive intersection, the report said.

McCauley, driving a 2006 Dodge pickup truck, was traveling east at about 65 mph when he passed another vehicle, the report said.

When McCauley tried to re-enter the travel lane, the truck ran off the right side, came back onto the road and ran off the left side, the report said.

The truck then hit Daniel Rasid Blue, 30, of Brook Ridge Drive, who was walking to catch a ride to work, the report said. Blue was pronounced dead at the scene.

After hitting the man, the truck hit a embankment, overturned and hit two trees, coming to rest in a ditch, the report said.

Neither McCauley or a passenger were injured, the report said.

A breathalyzer test showed McCauley's blood-alcohol level to be .10 percent, the report said.

A person is considered legally impaired with a .08 percent blood-alcohol level."

The drunk driver went to my high school.

It would be awesome if that guy's "adopted daughter" were to donate the money from the trust to the victim's family or a charity of their choosing. If only we could harness the power of crowd sourcing to shame the ever living shit out of her until she does it.

Quote :
"Raleigh, N.C. — A 23-year-old Wake Forest woman faces a slew of charges after a crash on Interstate 440 in Raleigh early Sunday that killed a man and seriously injured a woman.

Sarah Aimee Carden was charged with felony death by vehicle in the death of Tshimpangila Junior Bajani, along with felony serious injury by vehicle, felony hit-and-run resulting in death, felony fleeing to elude arrest, careless and reckless driving, driving while impaired and traveling the wrong way on a dual-lane highway.

Police said Carden was driving the wrong way on I-440 West between Beryl Road and Western Boulevard around 4 a.m.

Bajani and Adrina Angelica Moore were in a second vehicle traveling west in a westbound lane when they saw Carden's Acura heading toward them.

Bajani swerved to the right to avoid Carden's car, left the roadway, and as he tried to correct the car, it overturned several times before crashing into the guardrail.

Bajani, 30, of Raleigh, was killed. Moore, 25, of Raleigh, was taken to WakeMed with serious injuries. She has since been treated and released.

Court records show that Carden kept driving after the crash despite several officers' attempts to pull her over. A state trooper stopped her and arrested her on the Beltline near Six Forks Road. Authorities said she had a blood alcohol content of 0.16, which is twice the legal limit.

Less than two weeks ago, on May 30, Carden was charged with damaging personal property, according to court records.

Both sides of I-440 were closed for about four hours while police cleaned up debris and investigated the wreck. Traffic was diverted onto Western Boulevard and Hillsborough Street."

I was surprised the victim died without actually being hit, but along that section of road there really is no where to "swerve" the shoulders are like 12" wide and then its bridge guard rails and shit. I am not sure what I would do in that situation, probably swerve just enough to barely miss the oncoming car or get clipped by it, even then whats to say the inebriate does not move toward you at the last second.

"State Police said Gerald, of Greensburg, drove his pickup truck into the wrong lane of La. 67 south of Clinton and crashed it head-on into a car occupied by seven Baton Rouge residents returning from Bible studies in Clinton.

State Police reported that Gerald’s blood-alcohol content on May 30 was 0.15 percent. In Louisiana, a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent is considered presumptive evidence of drunken driving.

Five people in the car died instantly in the collision: the driver, Brenda Gaines, 64; Denise Gaines, 33; Diamond Johnson, 12; Jyran Johnson, 6; and Angela Mosely, 36."

^ You must not hang around a lot of drunk girls. Sure, some of them can handle their alcohol, but a lot of them can't. I've seen plenty of girls who struggle to talk/walk after the second glass of wine. Throw in "she was responding to a text" or something along that nature...and I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.

They STILL have not figured out exactly how she got on the belt-line going backwards, I am guessing she does not remember or is not talking.

Probably Melbourne Rd, that is the stupidest fucking exit in the city.

That's irrelevant of the BAC metric. Your blood alcohol level goes up quicker with the same # of drinks if you weigh less.

How much any given BAC affects your behavior, decision making, and coordination have to do with your experience drinking and natural dispositions. A 90 lb woman may be able to handle herself better at that level than a 250 lb man, although she might have had 1/4 as much alcohol to get to that level. The brain works in pretty much the same way for both and isn't heavily affected by the composition of the rest of the body, although the blood chemistry might be.

In addition to the drinking experience of an individual, the actual factors that lead to dangerous behavior probably have more to do with drinking psychology. Those who get drunk and feel invincible or feel that everything suddenly is a great idea are going to pose the greatest danger. The people who are death waiting to happen are the ones who can't put the picture together enough to realize that something is really really wrong when they're driving down the wrong side of the road. Those are the people who will make the news. There are many more people who are good at drinking and know how to conceal it rather well. They still risk sudden slips that will wreck their car and others. It's just a much more mundane event.

I think they mean that a girl with a BAC of .16 is worse than a man of .16, following the stereotype that women cannot handle their alcohol.

Obviously the stereotype is correct, supported by the lack of men causing drunk driving accidents.

Not exactly true. Its more that they don't see the downside to anything.

I was headed out to go fishing around 4:15am on Sunday morning and drove past the overturned car. I must have just missed the accident because there was only two cop cars and an ambulance on scene at that point and they were just getting out of their cars and they hadnt yet removed anybody from the overturned vehicle. Kinda crazy to think what would have happened if I had left a few minutes earlier.

A failure to see the improbability of an action succeeding is pretty indistinguishable from a superman complex.

The point that I was making is that any proposal sounds like a fantastic proposal to a drunk person. Go dance? Great idea! Hit on women? Great idea! Go pick a fight? Great idea! Go smash in some mailboxes? Great idea!

she probably got onto the beltline at Jones Franklin. I'd guess she was trying to turn off of JF to get onto the beltline to head towards I-40 and turned early into the offramp comming off of 440, then just kept driving.
