who the fuck cares what he did when he was a nobody at some junior college.

the guy is going to think he's a megastar when he's making money and showing up on magazine covers.

And on top of that he'd be a terrible NFL QB anyway.

He can't throw and he's not fast enough to be a runner in this league. I'd be okay with the pick in the 2nd or 3rd round but with the #1 overall pick I'll probably shun the franchise like I've already had to do with the Bobcats.

Fuck charlotte sports, it's over.

the Panthers have generally never drafted for need (at least since the beginning of the Fox/Hurney era)

i don't see why that should change now, though QB is quite a glaring need

^i would prefer Peterson, i don't care about the unorthodox nature of drafting a DB 1st overall

Im the worst fan of any kind?

I know more (trivia wise) than anyone on this board about the Carolina Panthers. Ive seen nearly every game for 15 seasons and can tell you almost anything about every team.

This franchise has been run into the ground and if they draft Newton, they become the dumbest team this side East of the Oakland Raiders. Fuck them.

The bobcats on the other hand have shit all over their fanbase every single season they've been in the league. At first they wouldn't "blow the franchise's future" by signing ready vets like Stackhouse. Then they wouldn't "take on salary" by adding legit free agents. Then they wouldnt "draft good players" like Chris Paul or Deron Williams. Then they wouldn't "pass up good picks" like Adam Morrison. Then they traded half their franchise for Jason fucking Richardson. Then they dumped Jason fucking richardson for nothing. Then they signed matt carroll for $1.2 billion. Then they drafted DJ Tiesto over Lopez. Then they traded their cap room for Stephen Jackson. Then they got swept in the playoffs. Then they trade Chandler for nothing. Then they let felton go for nothing. Then they traded Wallace for nothing. Then they traded Nazrs expiring cap space for nothing.

The franchise is left with nothing. Not one single fucking playoff win in 7 seasons at the easiest sport of all to win games in. All you have to do is get good players.

What have the Panthers done right in the last 3 years? fucking nothing. fuck them.

Jerry Jensen ruined that franchise. I cant believe they cut Mark Rodenhauser for fucking Jerry Jensen. Nice snap you faggot. Great job Dom Capers.

that's quite a statement, saying you know more trivia on the panthers than anyone on this board

i'm going to ignore that, because there is really no way to prove it

it's odd that you are so willing to give up on a team you seem to follow so fervently

regardless, having a few down years is not the worst thing in the world...every team at some point needs to change things up a bit, and with change comes uncertainty.

i can't imagine what you would think if you were a Bengals or Lions fan

rally i pretty much agree with everything you said about the Bobcats

but as far as the Panthers, its only been run into the ground for 1 season, because Big Cat had to posture for the new CBA, and Newton is just like every other player in this draft...never played an NFL snap and time will tell, if they even draft him

besides if in 2-3 years Newton is leading the Panthers to consecutive double digit win seasons, you'll be the first to crown him as a Golden God

^he was dead on about the Bobcats...they are a moribund franchise skirting the limits of NBA legitimacy

i like where the Panthers are at because whenever a new CBA is reached, they will have money to pay their core players and even some to throw at players to fill needs

some teams went nuts in the uncapped year, and if the new CBA has a salary cap, then it is possible that decent players with exorbitant contracts could be looking for new teams due to cap-slashing moves

i own 500 Lamar Lathon cards, his starting lineup and his jersey. I fucking posted why cutting Rodenhauser for Jerry Jensen was dumb.

I can tell you why Bob Christian is the answer to our most asked trivia question and where Butler By'not'e went to college (t-OSU).

I could Paul Butcher you on special teams, Brett Maxie you on D, Winslow Oliver you on punt returns, or Pete Metzelaars you on offense.

So dont go Frank Reich, Jack Trudeau, Kerry Collins, Jerry Colquitt with your first question (who were the four Panthers QB's in 1995) on me.

Cam Newton will be terrible as a professional QB. Any idiot can see that. Why do we have to be the team to prove it?

Jesus christ i did find one article. Suffice to say I didnt need this article to know how Rodenhauser for Jensen went down.

Quote :
"The Panthers tried that route once before with disastrous results. They had a perfectly good veteran in Mark Rodenhauser, but let him go in 1998 so they could use fifth-round linebacker Jerry Jensen there. Dom Capers sanctioned that move, hoping to get more productivity from a roster spot since the thought was that Jensen might play defense too.

Let's just say it didn't work out that way, Jensen cost them a game or two early, and was gone quickly, ushering in the Brian Kinchen era.

http://www.catscratchreader.com/2009/3/8/785931/panthers-losing-their-long"

Jerry Fucking Jensen, jesus christ Dom you toolbox.

Our first draft pick ever? Rod Smith. Taken #2 behind Steve Beuerlein.

Our first Mr. Irrelevant? Michael Reed. Now the Wolfpack DB's coach. Suck it.

are there any examples of QBs who played a lot their rookie years, sucked horribly, but went on to good/great careers (with the same team)? just tryin to think if there's any precedence by which clausen might not be a lost cause

if so it was too a much, much lesser extent

last year we were bad and boring

if we suck this year we should at least be entertaining to watch when Newton takes the reigns after Clausen's 1-7 start

This whole Cam Newton thing is a mistake.

They need to build up the defense this year and go Peterson or Dareus. There should be a free agent out there that can take get this team somewhere between 6-10 and 8-8 at the quarterback position. Next year figures to be a much better year for quarterbacks and we will be sitting in the 6-10 spot in the draft. Matt Barkley or Andrew Luck > Cam Newton. By a mile.

It's not an overnight fix, so we might as well play it right with our picks and stop drooling over the flavor of the month Cam Newton (Shaka Smart).

Also, why take Cam Newton who by all accounts is a little behind when it comes to the in's and outs and intricacies of the position and stunt his growth even more by not having any minicamps, training camp, or very possibly a shortened season or no season at all. Worst case: Do we want Cam Newton, a sketchy #1 pick to begin with, to sit around having no contact with our coaches or anyone football related for over a year? That just made me cringe a little.

bring in the veteran 6-10 or 8-8 QB regardless of if you draft Newton

and if we go 8-8 what makes you think we'll be in a position to draft a guy like Luck or Barkley? Its obviously early but they're ranked #1 and #2 as next year's draft prospects

if there are missed games due to the lockout, will they start the season at the point on the schedule corresponding to the date or will they start it in the same order

i.e. if they start playing Oct 16, will it be against the Falcons or Cardinals

not sure good question, i do know Goodell has said he would be in favor of pushing back the Super Bowl one week if necessary

if its a shortened season i would THINK they'd want to modify the schedules to make sure every team has 6 division games

I mean who knows what will happen. They might go back to back or there might be a couple defensive linemen, linebackers, receiver etc that would make a guy slide to 8 that we can't even predict right now.

Rivera is a defensive guy. I know he wants to build up that side of the ball. They just have to be able to stave off the pressure to draft a project at #1. Find that veteran and take the best player on the board.

Peterson will absolutely make more pro bowls than Cam Newton

i'm torn on Newton...he obviously brings a dynamic presence to the position, but i am worried about his ability to learn an offense

watched the QB camp with Gruden last night, and Newton divulged that they don't use complicated play calls at Auburn, only a number, say "36", and that's a play. granted, he had to learn what the hell 36 was, but he looked uncomfortable on this topic. also, he covered his mouth the entire team he talked. seems like an odd thing to do for someone expected to command the attention and respect of his teammates.

he can scramble with the best of them, but even Vick had to figure out how to truly play quarterback after a while. i just hope that if they draft Newton (which looks more likely each day) he can stay focused on improving and not settling on simply getting by with his athleticism.

i would be happy with Peterson, Dareus, or Von Miller but if they took Newton, i can't say i would blame them with a new coaching staff and especially after last year's disaster.

i dunno if his juco offense was too complicated either

but he learned both offenses within one year, went undefeated, and won a national title

i dont understand all the skepticism of him being able to learn an offense...in fact, with a new coach it would be a perfect time to cater an offense around his talents

every single rookie in the NFL is going to have a learning period, especially QB, but if he has the physical tools and the work ethic, why cant he learn

he accounted for 68 TD's in around 26 games or so...granted one year was at juco, but still, that's hard to ignore or downplay

"The grand unveil of Cam Newton's Wonderlic score finally surfaced via Chris Mortensen, and good news, prospective Cam Newton drafters: the model has rated a 21 on the Wonderlic scale, just above the 20 considered the bare minimum to play quarterback in the NFL. Positive comparison! While not overwhelming, a 21 has to ease the fears of some scouts about Newton's baseline intelligence, and exceeds Dan Marino and Jim Kelly's scores of 15 on the test. Negative comparison: Jamarcus Russell got a 24. (Sad face goes here.)"

http://www.sbnation.com/2011-nfl-draft/2011/3/17/2056060/cam-newton-wonderlic-score-nfl-draft

i guess the Wonderlic serves a purpose, but it's only one piece of the puzzle...however, if you get under a 10 like Vince Young supposedly did, that's fucking horrible
