get a bra saver or other delicate type bag and wash them on the delicate cycle!
or you can always hand wash.
p.s. i am deciding whether to shell out $texas for the st. tropez self tanner...or maybe to try a slightly cheaper kind from like, target.
looking at the aveeno
clarins instant gel (this one is still $texas like the st. tropez)
Aveda Sun Source
i'm interested to hear what you ladies have tried! and if you've tried any of the natural ones from like, wholefoods. those are more appealing to me because the chemicals in the other ones kinda scare me for some reason.

so it's OK to use a normal washing machine / soap if you use the bra holder and a delicate cycle? PS ... if me and my roommate share a bra bag in the wash, does that make us gay? 5/16/2011 4:21:18 PM |

i think i'd personally handwash the really pretty expensive lacy ones. but that is just because i'd hate to ruin it in the wash! i don't know what other people do, though.
and no haha sharing a bra bag just makes you resourceful! 5/16/2011 4:26:08 PM |

Big-boob girls:
I just got
http://www.figleaves.com/us/product.asp?product=Freya-Edith-Underwired-Plunge-Balconette-Bra&product_id=FRA-AA4811&size=&colour=Blues
from Figleaves in a 30G, and it is the prettiest awesome-fitting bra I've ever had. The sides are low so the wire doesn't poke your armpit, the straps adjust all the way so you can get them as short as you need to. The fabric is sturdy enough to give good support, but silky feeling and not scratchy like a lot of larger cup size bras PLUS it was less that $50. Recommended! 5/16/2011 5:16:05 PM |

With all this bra talk, I have realized:
1. I don't wash my bras properly 2. I need to be measured properly
Wheres a good place to be measured? I honestly don't know what true size I am because I usually go to VS for bras and I'm sure we can all agree they have jacked up sizes... 5/16/2011 5:40:25 PM |

It's not ok
You should use a delicate soap like Ivory Snow if you can't get something like this
Normal detergent will break down the elastic and what not in your bra and cause it to loose shape a lot faster. Also DO NOT PUT YOUR BRA IN THE DRYER!
Always hang it up to dry5/16/2011 5:40:49 PM |

thanks!! I'll have to get some. I should've asked at the bra store if they had special soap. You'd think they'd want to upsell stuff like that!
PS ... Sam, I've heard a lot of people recommend Nordstrom and Saks. Down in Charleston I went to a local store called Bits of Lace and they did an excellent job. I spent $140 on two bras but they are AMAZING! I feel so much better wearing them than my old, ill fitting bra.

Like I said if you don't wanna buy that you can use Ivory Snow
But don't use woolite...that's made specially for wool and not silks/satin/slinky shit

Sam hit up a major department store...most everyone is being trained these days. If you can find a specialty store like Nerdchick, then definitely hit them up

Also, how often do you need to wash a bra? There's no way I'm taking the time to wash it after every wear, I'm thinking maybe once a week? ] 5/16/2011 5:49:44 PM |

Well the deal is you're supposed to have 8-9 bras in your wardrobe so that you can rotate them whil others are being washed.
Your body oils and sweat will help break down the material as well
BUT I worked with bras and still couldn't afford 8-9...so to answer your question, that should suffice. just don't go too much longer than that ok 5/16/2011 5:51:55 PM |

^ Me either I have this aversion to spending lots of $ on one, and the ones that I think are cute/sexy never fit. Apparently having a large-ish chest= either spending too much on a cute bra or wearing the equivalent of granny panties on your chest So I wear bras from Target that at least come in cute colors and don't have "full coverage." 5/16/2011 9:37:34 PM |

hhahahahahahah....VERY nicely put and I concur. I need a few bras because my heavy jugs keep wearing the elastic out on mine and I can only afford the granny panty bras. I guess I would rather have comfort over cute so I am ok with settling with not having cute.5/16/2011 10:00:14 PM |

^^ do it!!! don't be afraid to drop some $$. think about it this way ... it'll make all the clothes you have look better!
My friend and I had an impromptu shopping trip and I said, "Hey I'm wearing my 'real clothes' bra, what are the chances of that?!" And my friend said, "Uhhhh - one in four?" LOL
Made me realize I need to update my wardrobe with real, quality bras. I only bought two but they are both sooooo much better than what I was using. ] 5/16/2011 10:04:51 PM |

This thread has reminded me that I really need to go buy some new bras. I have been wearing all the ones I have for far too long. I have a whole bunch that I rotate through, but I am realizing I may be better off buying a couple awesome ones than replacing them with similar-quality (i.e., cheap) ones. 5/16/2011 10:10:49 PM |

they are uncomfortable. pretty much all bras i've ever had/tried on are uncomfortable. that probably means i'm wearing the wrong size/kind or something.

I spend about $200 every 6 months on bras but it's worth it. If you're small in the ribs and large in the boob it's next to impossible to find cheap ones, and the expensive ones are higher quality anyway.
Oh, and I hand wash mine weekly with Eucalan, which is a no-rinse delicate wash. It's main purpose is for wool but it's awesome for bras too.

... I love talking about boobs and bras.
Anyway, if your bra is uncomfortable you're probably wearing the wrong size, yeah. Most women buy a band size too large and cup too small. Measure your underbust and don't add 4 inches like we've all been told to for ages and it'll be closer to your actual bra band size, though there is some variance among brands.
^ I haven't bought a good sports bra recently because I'm dropping weight and waiting to invest on a good one, but I've heard really good stuff about Title 9 and Shock Absorber for containing the bounce.

yeah wtf, why is that "add 4 inches" rule still around?? I found it on every bra sizing site when I was trying to measure myself. So is it true or not? Why do they tell you that? ]5/16/2011 10:25:36 PM |

I think it's because bras used to be made with really rigid materials and now everything is made with stretchy stuff, and it's just leftover from when our mothers had to do it that way? I don't know, but it needs to stop. 5/16/2011 10:27:42 PM |

I've had the best luck at Nordstrom (34G) if I want to try on bras in the store. Otherwise, I order from places like Figleaves or Herroom online.
Brands that are awesome include: Chantelle, Elomi, Freya, Fantasie, Wacoal

when i was in high school i never wore bras with under wire....hell i didn't when i came to college. my first roommate did this and i thought it was really weird but no one else said anything so i thought it was normal.
when i finally did start wearing bras with under wire i started washing them and then haning them and i still don't know why.
