fuck off, man

have you ever met a Cuban or even read firsthand accounts of Cubans who fled in the 60’s?

no amount of Wikipedia-ing will be a better resource than that, but since you are a big fan of posting wikipedia links, here’s one:

Maybe you should read the article you posted

Quote :
"The vast majority of those executed directly following the 1959 revolution were policemen, politicians and informers for the Batista regime who were accused of crimes such as torture and murder, and their public trials and executions enjoyed widespread popular support among the Cuban population. Most scholars agree that those executed were probably guilty as charged, but their trials did not follow due process. The Cuban Government justified such measures on the grounds that the application of the death penalty in Cuba against war criminals and others followed the same procedure as the one previously followed by the Allies during the Nuremberg trials. Some Cuban scholars maintain that had the government not applied severe legislation against the torturers, terrorists, and other criminals employed by the Batista regime, the people themselves would have taken justice into their own hands."

It was a civil war. The Cubans who fled due to fear of violence were upper class counterrevolutionaries and traitors. The rest were taking advantage of loosened US immigration policies, which you really can't blame them for. Lots of people would prefer to live in an established first world country than help build a third world one.

Is the assertion here that if a revolution is taking place, it is treasonous to not actively side with the revolution, which happens to be overthrowing an existing sovereign government?

which is different than the executions that took place during the entirety of the 60’s and the early 70’s

it’s the absolute peak of privilege to sit behind a screen in 2020 and type:

Quote :
"Big surprise that people living in a developing third world country would want to leave when offered huge incentives. Not everyone is a committed revolutionary in times of struggle and hardship. Especially upper and middle class Cubans who were a large portion of refugees."

"Counterrevolutionary" is a term normally used to refer to upper class holdouts who attempt to sabotage an established revolutionary government. So yeah, it is treason at that point.

Quote :

The quote I posted is talking about executions from 1959 through the 60s. And again, from the article you posted.

Quote :
"The number of reported executions in Cuba declined during the 1970s and by the 1980s they were restricted to rare high-profile cases, notably the execution of General Arnaldo Ochoa in 1989. Ochoa, once proclaimed "Hero of the Revolution" by Fidel Castro, along with three other high-ranking officers, was brought to trial for drug trafficking. This offense carries a maximum sentence of 20 years, but Ochoa and the others were convicted of treason and promptly executed. Opponents of the Castro government outside of Cuba expressed skepticism about the legitimacy of Ochoa's arrest and execution."

No, actually, it most certainly is not. That you think it is makes you a horrible monster.

It is not treason to sabotage any regime's plans, be it Donald Trump or Fidel Castro. If they're spreading propaganda or even lies to turn people against the government, that is called "Engaging in Politics". If they're destroying infrastructure and killing people, the charges are destruction of property and murder, respectively. "Treason" is only a crime in domestic discourse under totalitarian regimes.

You will be charged with violating the Espionage Act of 1917 and probably theft of government property, depending what exactly you did.

But that mostly applies to government employees. The super secret invasion of Panama wound up being broadcast on television to no discernible punishment what-so-ever.

he did well, the booing i think surprised him the first time but didn't throw him off

i don't think anyone really stood out as being excellent or terrible, it was just a bad debate overall. bloomberg was bad and probably would have been terrible but he was saved by moderates a few times and also had a favorable audience. pete kept talking over people but they ignored him, i'm surprised they didn't andrew yang his mic.

That debate didn't feel to me like he did well but that he didn't do bad enough to really hurt himself. Also, no one did well enough to single-handedly benefit at his cost. I felt like Biden won the debate by default of being in the lead. Warren is the most articulate and knows how to land punches well in debates.

Bernie had one exchange where he deflected a question off-topic by talking about Biden voting for the Iraq war. Didn't come off well especially considering the boos. The crowd was on Bernie all night and he never should have engaged them.

I feel like winning a debate means you have to sound good to people who previously didn't think you sounded good. I felt like they all did well for the base but didn't bring anybody new in with that debate.

tonight's rally was electric. 25,000+. I went early enough to have to wait a long ass time to get in but too late to be within visibility of the stage. Dick Van Dyke was hilarious in his rambling and said a bunch of shit no one in the room agreed with but at least he's endorsed bernie bless his heart.

HOW SOCIALIST IS BERNIE SANDERS?
The self-proclaimed democratic socialist Bernie Sanders’s rise in a time of political upheaval, the historian Michael Kazin argues, is less shocking than people think.

Because you’re fasc-curious.

Also, maybe don’t watch primetime cable news if you want in depth economic theory to be discussed?

Well yeah I'm curious about every ideology. I can't change the reality that most people get their information from MSM. You don't watch cable news but are a walking projection of their narrative. It doesn't matter what medium you get it from if its the same ideology. The fact of the matter is that everyday people are genuinely concerned about how government will pay for programs that are essential to their lives and thats all because of MSM pushing conservative talking points without balance.

I love my facebook feed because I get exposure to all types of people. Thats what happens when you've lived in 5 States and 2 foreign countries.

I always said Bernie was too nice but in the next week we're going to find out what he's made of. Tons of cash on hand. Lets see if he's willing to use that to attack. He's never attacked anyone. Republicans are going to do it and its time to take the gloves off. Voters don't know who Biden is. Put everything out there. Scorched earth.

Here's what will happen: most Bernie supporters will vote for Biden, a small % will vote third party, a very small % will vote for Trump, and the rest will sit out the election. But the Democratic leadership would rather lose than elect Bernie so it's a win for them either way.

I'll never vote for Biden, if thats what you're asking. As Daave already said, most Bernie voters will. I'm in that small % of Bernie voters who are actually socialists who moved right to get behind Bernie unlike the democrats who moved left to get behind Bernie.

As long as Biden has the lead and wins in a way I deem to be "fair and square" (which it looks pretty certain he will), I won't actively oppose him.

but if Bernie somehow takes the lead in delegates and popular vote and Biden is still the nominee, or if anyone else is the nominee, I will actively oppose that candidate as an enemy of democracy. So rigging shit going forward is the only way they can further alienate me. As far as I'm concerned right now, Bernie has failed to earn the nomination as opposed to it "being stolen from him"

[Edited on March 5, 2020 at 2:08 PM. Reason : I'm in a place of apathy right now, not a place of opposition to biden]

I probably won't, but could be swayed by VP choice

And no, it's not because of the "dastardly DNC" or "sour grapes". It's because he's an awful person and candidate and I think we are probably better off waiting 4 more years.

May be hard to overcome as it is.

For like half a second last night I had some faith Dems might have found some balls wrt to the courts but of course Schumer caved to McConnell and media faux outrage and apologized.

In all seriousness, the Dems have a legit shot to win back the Senate and it would be a travesty if he was the majority leader.

No idea atm. I would recommend progressives not play their hand at this point because it gives Biden's team no reason to offer concessions.
