We're not going to get a big name, we're getting a mid-major coach. Sucks, but that is life at NC State.

^^ Did you read what Katz posted?

I would be thrilled if Barnes would come at this point but I'd also be SHOCKED if he left Texas. He is on my 'unrealistic list' right AFTER Jay Wright, who I think is a much better ingame coach then Barnes.

Thing is, does it really matter? If we don't get a BIG NAME coach everyone is just going to blame Fowler and not the fact that none were available like most of us have been saying on here..

If Fox was still chancellor, I bet she could lure him away.

But Flower and oldinger?

hahaha, no chance in hell.

there is no way we're getting barnes.

not unless we drop a 7 figure salary.

we should outsource this task to fox. It would give her practice running an athletics program, since UCSD has none

I don't think we'll end up with Barnes, but I wouldn't put stock into what Katz says, either.

We should have no problem putting together a 7 figure package. And realistically, that's what it will take.

Billy Gillespie's name has been thrown around a lot. Not as a #1, but as a probable candidate should the higher-ups not work out

I love this quote
Quote :
"A lot of people have talent, unbelievable skill – but no determination. They find excuses for wallowing in mediocrity and never realize their full potential. This thing we call life is not easy. It takes desire to succeed at whatever a person wants to do or become. Success is not always measured in dollars and cents, but in setting and achieving one’s goals....But beyond that, it comes down to heart – how badly a person wants to do something and how much effort he or she is willing to give to reach their goals with no excuses."

Of course he isn't closer to the situation. However, he does know the inner workings of the coaching circle and college bball a hell of a lot better then you or me.

I can't figure out which is worse. The people blaming the fans/media for Herb leaving or the people calling everyone they disagree with 'herb lovers.'

This is fucking retarded and not worth my time to respond about this situation anymore I guess...

^^please. katz was so inside, he knew about the herb hiring, right? No one in any media knew anything about herb leaving until it happened. It's obvious that Katz doesn't know what's going on with NCSU and our efforts. He might be able to pull on a few string now that he knows the news, but he's just repeating common opinion.

Katz did have Wake winning the national championship last year. You really shouldn't trust this guy.

Katz' article is crap. Anyone putting stock in it knows nothing.

He says we're going after Larranaga for God's sakes. Whittenburg? Towe?

The only decent point he makes is we would call Gregg Marshall, which we will.

I did. But Katz doesn't talk to Fowler.

All I know is that Barnes is our #1 target. However, that doesn't mean we get him. I personally don't think we get him...but he is our first choice.

I feel like if we don't get a big name (meaning, we get higher than a midmajor coach)...then all of this will be step down. I really hope we can reel in Barnes or someone like him...but I definitely wouldn't put money on it.

I don't know if Lorenzo Romar is realistic, but he would be a tremendous hire.

romar makes 700,000 a year, we could easily top that but it would involve him leaving him alma mater

Romar is a good coach. I have to ask you why you think he is realistic. He is FROM Washington, a UW grad, and has said many times he is living his dream job..

I can't imagine he is a realistic replacement ast the thread seems to indicate.

Getting a no-name coach from a mid-major might not be so bad...nobody had heard of Billy Donovan when Florida hired him out of the MAC seven years ago.

""…if you want me to be quite blunt I’ve got one of the best jobs in the country. Yea, I grew up in North Carolina but I have no desire to coach in the Atlantic Coast Conference or coach anywhere else other than Texas" Barnes said Saturday, prior to the Texas-NC State matchup that saw Texas soundly whip the Wolfpack.

But Barnes added "it bothers me more, not so much about that, it bothers me more that Herb hasn’t been appreciated the way he should be"

The great thing about this dispute is that we will know who is right very soon. Just like everyone who said Herb wasn't leaving--they'll eat their words again.

His top assistant is looking at a job at UNC-W. I think Barnes will be coming here.

and Josh#s do you have anything to back up your statements? Or are you just trying to troll?
