Chuck's has been tested.
It is indeed worth the money. Definitely one of the better burgers I've had, though I'm tentatively going to say it wasn't the best. I had the Spirit Animal, but I may end up there before the week is out to have the Dirty South, which I'm kind of mad at myself for not getting. However, the Spirit Animal has charred poblano peppers and grilled tomato... absolutely delicious.
And I don't know if it's been said, but their fries and milkshakes are awesome! The fries are the best I've had in Raleigh (and close to actual Belgian fries I've had in Belgium), and the aioli was... just really good for aioli. We split a "salty peanut butter with roasted bananas" which was not surprisingly delicious.
I mean obviously it's not the cheapest burger, fries, and milkshake out there. But damn was it good after running around SPARKcon all day. 9/18/2011 10:15:59 PM

Went to Chucks and Fox last night. I got the Big House burger; pretty good, but nothing overly impressive. The "comeback sauce" for fries is a fucking disastrous horseradish/cocktail sauce/1000 island abomination. Fox is a pretty cool spot, but $11 for cocktails in which there's about 4 oz and a shitton of ice is a bit much. 9/21/2011 10:40:01 AM

Redirect from Downtown thread:
Quote : | "^Yeah, I'm kind of pissed off about the tiny water glasses. The self-serve is fine, but why the tiny-ass glasses? I assume that's just because if it was a large glass people would fill it up and not always drink it all, and the waiters have to refill the water container because it's not a tap setup. Still, I think it's pretty annoying. I sat there and had three shots of water before filling up a fourth and going to the table. Looked like a bit of an idiot but I was thirsty and I wasn't going to get up every 3 minutes to fill it up." |
Seriously annoying, they need to replace that shit. 9/21/2011 11:40:23 AM

To clarify the zero flaws comment. The white meat was super dry and had wet uncooked flour under the outer cruelty part. I mean, i don't get those kind of flaws at bojangles and the fryers there don't consider themselves the epitome of nouveau cuisine in the area. 9/21/2011 1:07:06 PM

^the question you have to ask yourself is do they make this mistake every time or even a high percentage of the time. If so, your cuntishness is completely validated. If not, and if it was a one time mistake, or a new fry cook, or someone having a bad day that just fucked up 5-6 pieces of chicken, its $7.50, not $50.00 (and perfection is hardly achievable at any restaurant with all of the variables involved)
Same issue I have with people that get on message boards, urbanspoon, yelp and complain about waiters/service after one fucking trip. If its a trend, then fine, but there is nothing a restaurant can do, no matter how good their training program is, about a person having a bad day, being rude for a split second, or fucking up your order. 9/21/2011 1:33:42 PM

Damn did I have a perfect burger, and not to mention the perfect fry too. Great temp, perfect texture, and great crisp on the outside of the fry. Aioli was perfect creaminess and great flavoring, that wasn't over powering.
The ingredient's on the will's way burger were thick cut and great, just like a fresh home grown roma tomato. Burger itself was seasoned and cooked well.
I was impressed. I will definitely go back in one of my last 6 meals in Raleigh. 9/23/2011 2:37:40 PM

Will go again but I'm not downtown as much these days.

Tried to go for first time, today. Cool place, but we got there at 4:15 and they had just stopped serving waffles.
None of the 9 of us understood that, because their menu then went from 3 items to 2 items, until 10pm, I think.
I didn't realize it was THAT limited of a menu. We all were just kinda miffed. There were a few other people in there, and while their food looked pretty good, none of us could wrap our mind around the place. We could either order chicken, or a chicken biscuit. Really strange.
That said, I'll definitely go at some point, because i love chicken and waffles very, very much.
We ended up leaving, because, frankly, it's hard to please 8 people with a menu like that.

as long as the place has been open you should have known that the menu was going to be limited to just the chicken or the biscuit. its still very worth it with the sides/sweets
went to Fox last night and while i wasnt blown away it was a cool place to chill. drinks are pricey but very stout. such a strong pour that when we went to Neptunes we were complaining about weak pours on almost clear glasses of rum/bourbon coke. they pour nice drinks most of the time there and the color of the drink made us just realize how strong the cocktails at Fox are.
I would say that the drinks jstpack and i had would equal the amount of liquor in 2.5-3 drinks at other places. it probably took us 20 minutes to finish our one drink. think of it as a double.
no DJ just lounging tunes ... ladies, they had all male bartenders last night and all the guys dress up which brings an upscale, big city vibe i guess. As soon as it got just a little crowded the door guy went 1/1; i liked that a lot. They kept the crowd at just the right size while we were there. Drinks take a few minutes to make but with 3 mixers last night it wasnt that long.
The bathrooms are nicely set up; 4 unisex, individual rooms with a toilet and real door. not stall type doors.
not a bad place if you are looking to start the night off with a stiff drink. 9/25/2011 12:50:26 PM

was there with WillemJoel
honestly I had wanted to go to see what the fuss was about, but I won't go back.
there is no such thing as $10 fried chicken. come the fuck on. someone has been blowing way too much smoke up Ashley Christensen's ass for her to think that people are going to frequent a place with THREE main dishes, one of which you can only get late night or all day on sunday.
I know people who make superb fried chicken and they wouldn't dare think they could charge $10 a motherfucking plate for it. Raleigh is too small for that level of hardcore fucking pretension. I'm getting so tired of this ballooning of the "places to be seen" ethos in local businesses instead of places that offer you a redeeming experience.
There were some 40-somethings at the bar drinking wine at a fried chicken place. The wine and cocktail list outnumbered the food items available. For real? This is what Raleigh goes for now? Fuck that. 9/25/2011 1:51:51 PM

^The plate of chicken is $7.50, and they have offered a few specials, including chicken salad when I have been there. I wish the chicken biscuit was white meat, and they should have chicken salad, maybe chicken fingers (upscale style), and chicken waffles all day, other than that I have no complaints. 9/25/2011 1:57:29 PM

kiljadn, WillemJoel,
that's what you get for visiting an establishment that doesn't care about serving your demographic
they're probably glad you aren't coming back or are confused by their very simple menu
it will make room for the folks they are actually marketing to

^^That's because most tdubbers haven't been to Poole's. If this was a 9-page long thread about it (and I know we've talked about it in the thread but that's not the point), they'd complain about it just the same, especially since it's more expensive.
