The unit we like is available now. And yeah, condos tend to limit the number of renters ... Makes sense for property value.

He's checking out a couple of other places today, but that one just seems the nicest so far.

Where did you end up moving?

we live in a condo high rise not too far from center pointe, about .5 mile north on elm st. but it's definitely not for young professionals. it's actually a luxury condo for older residents and seniors which is really depressing because we are surrounded by nothing but other senior centers and funeral homes. i like it alot though since its quiet for study (ambulances aside). we have 24/7 security, magnetic door locks, utilities included, pool, gym w/sauna, and trash/recycling/laundry right outside your door.

[Edited on January 14, 2012 at 11:45 AM. Reason : oh and its definitely not modern, its very very old. like a hotel from the 60s.]

You should hit the Wal-Mart on Wendover sometime. My sister got followed to her car by a dude once when she was there shopping there with her kids. She ended up turning around and going back into the store to get a security guard. Needless to say she has never gone back.

The only Wal-Mart in the area that I even consider going to is the one in Burlington. But then again, I live closer to Burlington so I guess that isn't a good option for most of you.

haha I went to the Wal-Mart on West Wendover one time at like 4am -- the website said it was open 24 hours. There weren't more than 10 cars in the parking lot and there's a group of probably 20 employees standing by the main door, which is wide open. It's a ghost town inside, absolutely zero employees or customers. I get whatever I was buying and head for the checkout -- no one there. I wander the aisles for a few minutes looking for anyone -- no one there. Finally I head to the front door and ask one of the dudes who just seemed to be hanging out there. Turns out they were closed, dude let me just waltz in because I was wearing a blue shirt. On my way back through the parking lot, some guy was asleep on the roof of his car. Fucking Greensboro.

Yeah, the Walmart on Cone is sketch, but always crowded. The Walmart on West Wendover is super sketch, and a little scary too. I've only shopped there once, out of absolute necessity.

The Wal-Mart on Battleground isn't bad when it comes to the class of people that shop there, but it is the original Wal-Mart in Greensboro so it is a little on the dirty side imo.

I like the Walmart on Battleground for the most part, and you get good people that shop there. Most of the Summerfield people who don't want to go far enough to go to Target will stop in there, a lot of the Lawndale and surrounding areas will stop it. It's not a bad one, but it is old. And I really don't like the parking lot structure, if we're getting picky about the walmarts here.

I grew up in that area of Greensboro and you are right, it is a really good part of town. Well, until you get over to Mallard Lake Apts. on Lawndale.

There is a new super Walmart on S Elm-Eugene near the 85 interchange which my girlfriend claims is the nicest Walmart she's ever been in

^ it's nice, but the people that shop there are almost as sketch as those that shop at Cone.

And it isn't exactly new. It opened in 2005

I'm killing myself trying to find a job in this town. Any job. I don't care if it's shit, in fact that's almost preferable since I should be leaving the country in July. And I get nothing. If anybody knows of anything -- hell, if you even see help wanted signs out and about -- I'd love a heads-up.

^^ I know someone who lives just a few houses away. Interesting FB posts earlier today:

"not sure what that explosion sound was a few minutes ago..."

"just heard what sounded like 2 more gunshots. can't be sure though."

I think he left for work after that post.

High-rise preferred - yes
High ceilings - yes 10' I think
Large windows - floor to ceiling on all or nearly all outside walls
Modern style and appliances - Yes.
Community pool - I don't think so but could be wrong
Fitness center - yes there is a small one.
Covered parking - yes basement level
Good for a young professional couple - don't know really, probably, not many if any undergrad students there.

There's a downtown YMCA that's above average for Y's ~3-4 blocks away for a pool and much more of a fitness area.

We live in a house over in westerwood just outside downtown.

suggest to me a place i can just grab a beer or two with some friends, maybe see a game, and can be comfortable in jeans, a sweatshirt, and no makeup.

^^maybe. i considered jp looneys in hp, but every time i'm there i feel under dressed, despite the fact it's really not that nice of a place. i also like brass taps but i don't feel like driving all the way out there, if that place is even around anymore. spring garden pizza is ok. i guess i wouldn't mind driving that far, but i'd prefer closer. that's why i like jp looneys as it's literally right down the road from where my family lives.

my friends live in jamestown. what's around there?

Nothing that fits your criteria. But if you are in that area you can just jump on Wendover and hit any number of chain restaurants that have bars/TVs

there is ham's at the palladium, but i feel like there's so many trashy people there, and most of them probably went to hs with me.

my friend just informed me she has been trying to stay away from looney's......i think she's had some questionable nights there over the past several years.
