the one i'm specifically remembering was a black chick who was missing her shoes and was at a bar named "Drink" (iirc). but i'm pretty sure there were parties with white folk too.

They literally play them on tv daily. One was on last night.

And I just looked, apparently Season 4 wwas only filmed in three places, including UNCG

Saw this and finally found it online. Not as good as Hennis speaking, hanging folks in effigy, or bringing fake bombs into meetings, but I still laughed.

Natty Greene's expanding to SC, Virginia, and D.C. I'm not a fan of any of any of their beers, but congrats to them!

I ended up at Natty's a lot while living here; however, I agree that their beer isn't that great.

^^ this, and on the rare occasion that I am there either before or after an event downtown. If I am out somewhere else and decide to order a local beer, its either Foothills or Red Oak.

it won't be a house of blues

it will be an 850-seat venue owned by the House Of Blues Entertainment Group and will operate under a different name

we opened a hackerspace/makerspace/whathaveyou called The Forge on 115 W. Lewis Street

we are new so give us some time to get the good equipment in but we already have a 3d printer, laser cutter, and we're getting in some great woodworking tools (bandsaw, I don't know cause I don't mess with it)

http://www.greensborohackerspace.org/

Also great wifi for members (fastest business class) and open 24/7!!!

I had a tasty Natty Green's Amber Ale the other night. Isn't that brewery in Greensboro?

Yep.

Also, looks like I'll be back in gboro for another field assignment. 10-12 months this time instead of 4-6(that turned into 7) last time.

This is pretty awesome! My husband and I are trying our hands at woodworking, but we don't have all the tools. I'll try and convince him to at least join if we both can't afford it.

Even better -- I just looked up where you're located and it's walking distance from me. Is this the kind of thing where I could pop in and do a tour, or do you only let non-members in with an appointment?

We also have some redundant hand tools. They're nothing special, but we don't need 100 drill bits or 15 hammers (a lot of inherited tools), etc. Does The Forge need any hand tools? We're doing a yard sale this weekend, but if you guys want it, I'll cull out the nice pieces.

I'm sure we will take anything you have to offer!

As for the pop in/membership question, only members have electronic access to open the doors

Non members right now are allowed in during open house hours and I'm not sure what the restrictions will be when we're further along

looks like Greenway has increased rent by about $100 a month. Oh well, it was honestly a really good deal for the price I rented at last year so it is still at the top of my list of places to rent since it looks like I will be back in Gboro late September at this point.

As backups, does anyone else have any recommendations for downtown apartments in Gboro? My criteria last time that led me to Greenway was:

*Walkable (~1 mile of all sidewalk preferably) to the Elm Street area
*half-decent gym with free weights on site
*<$1000 per month

Last time I was getting a studio apartment at Greenway for $845 (internet included) with only minimal power and water bills.

How about the Lofts at Greensborough Court? They're pretty nice. If not, i've heard good things about the Elms.

thanks I'll definitely keep both in mind. Trying to get my estimated start/end date (they are never exact in this industry but it's something) from the person I'll report to up there so that I can get a better idea of the length of lease I'll need and if I can commit to something in the near future since some of those downtown places tend to have limited availability.

What are you looking for? Apartment? House? Number of bedrooms? Price range? Rent or buy? Closer to work or closer to bars? The closer to Cone, the pricier, but there are some good places out that way.

I'm about to do another lease at Greenway. The commute was really simple to my job site and the convenience of deep roots grocery for daily meals and grocery shopping was just too much to pass up. They only had 1 apartment left in the smallest size like I wanted so I'm moving on it now even though the lease wouldn't start until mid Oct.

So I've been out of town for a few years and am coming back for a month or so in November. Any new spots worth checking out?

Also curious about entertainment venues, even if they've been around for a while -- I never went to much when I lived there. Looks like the Carolina Theater is nothing but Christmas shit for the duration of my stay. Any other suggestions?

Lots of changes downtown. Mostly restaurantish though. They are opening a new brewery downtown, but I don't know if it will be ready by the time you are here. There is a lot more out near the High Point/Greensboro line. There are also "first Fridays" in Greensboro and usually a lot of food trucks and music.

Another place I like, but I don't think it qualifies as "new" is Potent Potables in Jamestown. It's been around for a few years.

First Fridays are every month (even in the winter). Not sure when you're returning, but the December event is confirmed for December 5 from 6-9pm, and there will be one on the first Friday of January.

Is there some new craft beer store downtown or something too? I was just online recently trying to see what changed since I was working here last year on assignment and it seems like I came across that.

Gibb's Brewing is opening soon. They should have craft beers.

Then, Crafted (the taco place) is opening a new Crafted downtown, but they have not released what food they will be serving.

Also Spice Cantina just opened -- http://downtowngreensboro.net/dine/spice-cantina
