If you're referring to me - I'm simply asking questions about the format used to record since I'm unfamiliar with it. I don't usually comment on these situations at all until more facts are known, but thought someone here could fill me in on the FB streaming.

Wow, I dont even know what to say. Someone asked earlier why Alton didnt just comply with the police officers. I think this is a pretty clear example of why. Still waiting for the NRA outrage over this. Not expecting that it will happen. NRA = gun rights for whites only.

Today, the girlfriend is saying this:

Quote :
"Reynolds said that another officer who was on her side walked away to call for backup. She added that other officers pulled the cop who fired the weapon to the side and told him “he would be ok and he would get through this.”"

So they were more worried about the cop "getting through this" while still on the scene instead of checking on the victim.

Of course we don't know what happened before the video started, but the officers' behavior afterward is deplorable.

suggesting that its safer to fight back is just going to make the problem worse. if your rights are being violated record it on your phone and make your case in court.

i realize that this may not apply directly to this case

Sure, that would be the rational response, but black people are legitimately scared when they have to interact with the police. And fear can make you do stupid things. At the same time, some cops are scared when interacting with a black person and they do stupid things (like shoot without hesitation). Yet, the cop should be the one who can remain calm and attempt to alleviate the fear. Isnt that what they are trained to do?

"In the interview with CNN this morning, Castile's mother said both her son and daughter have concealed weapon permits for Minnesota. Just hours before her son was fatally shot, Valerie Castile said he was at her house talking with his sister about how concealed-carry permit holders must be cautious, especially African-Americans.

"My daughter said, ‘You know what, I really don’t even want to carry my gun because I’m afraid that they’ll shoot me first and then ask questions later,’” Valerie Castile told CNN.

Valerie Castile said she believes her son told the police officer he was licensed to carry a gun.

“I’m sure he did because that was something we always discussed. Comply," she told CNN this morning. "That’s the key thing in order to survive being stopped by the police is to comply. Whatever they ask you to do, do it. Don't say nothing. Just do whatever they want you to do. So what's the difference in complying and you get killed anyway?""

It is interesting after a mass shooting the NRA will issue a statement instantly decrying gun free zones or something dumb like that, but after a case like this they are silent.

Those, while unimaginably horrific, have no gut-wrenching video. And of the shootings to this point that did have video, you never actually saw someone die up-close on camera, while a family member and a four year old fucking child watched on.

I don't see how this cop gets acquitted. But I'm making a rush to judgement here.

Nah

Theyll call for peace, while they do a long investigation. This will give everyone time to forget how angry they are

There will be some sort of a smear campaign. Gotta make it the victim's fault somehow. Any activist that makes so much as a peep will be labelled a whiny troublemaker.

There may be a trial. There may not be. It doesn't really matter, as it is for show anyway.

Nothing will happen to the cop, except a paid vacation. He might leave his current job, and find a new position one town over.

The city will promise to do more training.

you can hear him say Fuck! fuck! and see his hands shaking and then later once the phone is on the ground fuck! and then he's just screaming fuck!

He killed Philando because he was nervous

There's no gun in sight-- from the video I'm guessing it was properly holstered and this guy just killed him because he heard the word gun

I'd say there is a chance the cop gets some sort of punishment, this situation seems very much like the SC gas station shooting where the cop rolls up to the guy getting out of his car, asks him for his ID, and then shoots him when he reaches for it in the car. I think that cop ended up pleading guilty to assault, not sure how much time he got, though probably not much. Either way I doubt this will affect any greater change, but hopefully something will happen to this murderer.

^^^^ it's all a big circle. Cops don't want to go to jail because we have pretty horrible prison systems, so they do anything to avoid accountability, even if it means lying or telling half-truths to cover up failures, which causes people to attack the credibility of the entire police institution, which create battle lines between people defending the "good cops" from people who they say hate police, which deadlocks any progress, which lets another shooting happen.

The main thing that will lead to fixing the problems is cops holding their own colleagues accountable for screw ups instead of covering for them.

Yeah and the comments about the other cops telling him he will get through it I mean at the time they didn't know that it wasnt a justified shooting either they just assumed since he shot him there was obviously a reason for it. You can definitely tell from his voice that its beginning to sink in what just happened and he has to be starting to realize he is pretty screwed. I am actually most surprised at the fact the woman holding the camera was actually pretty calm considering what just happened.

That's an idiotic comparison. The NRA issues statements defensively.

After a mass shooting, the liberal agenda is "Guns are bad" and the NRA defends guns.

After a cop kills a resisting suspect, the liberal agenda is "America is racist".

^^It was only a matter of time before he mentioned the liberal agenda here.

Come on guys, you have to admit, that video is pretty damning. The only thing that can be said right now in the cops defense, the ONLY thing, is that the video started after the actual shooting, so we have no record of what really happened.

I usually like to believe the police in these instances, but I just can't put my faith behind this guy. Not right now.

"Reynolds told reporters on Thursday morning that she and Castile were on their way home when he was shot. Castile had just gotten a haircut for his upcoming birthday, she said, and then they had gone grocery shopping.

The two were pulled over for a broken tail light.

Reynolds said the officer came to the window and instructed them to put their hands in the air. He then asked to see Castile’s license and registration, which, Reynolds said, Castile kept in a thick wallet in a pants pocket.

“As he’s reaching for his back pocket wallet, he lets the officer know: ‘Officer, I have a firearm on me.’ I begin to yell, ‘But he’s licensed to carry,’” Reynolds said. “After that, he [the officer] began to take off shots: ba ba ba ba. ‘Don’t move, don’t move!’”"

This is just lulz. How can a logical person come to any conclusion based on what's presented? Honestly? I'm talking about systemic racism, etc., just this stop? Because a person says "fuck" he admitting he fucked up? Because one person, he has every reason to lie (not saying she did or is) says it happened this we are to take that at face value with a preponderance of the evidence? Look, I'm the first to admit that the criminal justice system is tucked up and the first two issues to be addressed are urban policing and the treatment of the mental ill, but how logical, educated people can just deduce fact out of thin air is beyond me.

If you're a cop you should be pointing out how your peer screwed up here, how he should be released from policing, how they need to review whatever training he got that made him more volatile than the woman whose boyfriend was just shot in front of her and her 4 year old daughter, how he should be facing at least manslaughter charges for this.

But defending gross, deadly incompetence shouldn't even be on the list anywhere.

It seems like a foregone conclusion amongst police that this officer should be able to keep his job and not face any legal action, even if he screwed up, because deadly screw-ups are just part of being a cop in America.

Because there's a lot of info in the video? This was taken pretty much instantly? Do you think the woman contemplated the best web of lies to cover up her crazy, violent boy friend in a matter of minutes?

I think a better question is what extenuating circumstances you think would justify the shooting?

If he was pulled over for more than a busted tail light wouldn't they have released this by now? Are all his family lying about a CCP? If he was actually brandishing his gun, wouldn't this be in the video, or wouldn't the cop be acting differently, wouldn't the other police officers be stepping in to secure the scene? If there was some threatening situation, don't you think they would have treated the women even more harshly than they did? There's more than enough context clues to see this was a screw up by the police.

^^^not suggesting you ignore what's out there, just recognize that it's just one piece of a puzzle. The video is horrible, but it only muddies the waters. I have a ton of questions, many of them have been hypothetical asked in this thread. But, we can begin to dissect the situation without everything on the table.

I've said it once and I will say it again, if the cop fucked up, fuck him. But we can't just execute this cop without the bigger picture.

All I'm asking for is some reason. I'm tired of the bad shoots and in custody deaths. It just belittles the hard work and passion I put into my community. But in the day of Twitter, live feeds, etc, I'm sick of the instant condemnation of everybody, cop or not. We publically try and execute people on the Internet with little or no context.

And the sarcastic KDB quotes are just trolling.

^^ I don't think the video muddies the waters, the video clears the waters.

If the video doesn't exist, the police would have full control over the story, they would have said "man shot, gun was recovered" (which is what they're saying now) to give the impression that he was somehow a threat. We wouldn't have the video of the initially calm demeanor of his girlfriend trying to stay calm for her daughter, instead we would have the hysterical videos of her crying about injustice and racism, and (white) people would just dismiss it as another ghetto thug resisting police. They might have even planted something in the car like they did to the guy in South Carolina.

This would have been swept under the rug if it wasn't for the video, which if you believe the black community, has been happening for decades.

The video being publicly released is necessary to stop the corruption that would have happened if we didn't have the video.
