recruiting, for any coach, will not be an issue here. people shit on herb because he wasn't a prolific recruiter...and he brought in plenty of high rated talent. gott is obviously a better recruiter than Herb. but no matter who the coach is, we play in the best conference in the nation, we're in a very talent rich state, we're building a basketball dorm, etc, etc. we will recruit well almost regardless of who the coach is. of course, there are varying degrees of recruiting "well"....you can bring in top 10 classes or top 30 classes. both are solid, one is better than the other of course. i'm not saying we're UNC or Kentucky when it comes to hauling in elite talent. but we've had very mediocre results over the last 20 years, for example, and over the course of 3 different coaches we have never had an issue recruiting talent here.

what i'm saying is...talent shouldn't be a problem here at State. and over the years, the talent has very rarely been the reason we've struggled to achieve the success the fans desire.

This catches up with you eventually and after this season of wasting a talent like DSJ I suspect it is gonna be harder and harder to pull in top level talent without the right coach.

but that's what i was trying to explain...sure, pulling in DSJ is an anomaly for us. he's probably the highest rated recruit we've ever got. so i would agree that wasting this season could likely hurt us the next time we're in the hunt for a top 5 lottery pick. but we also aren't realistically gonna be in the hunt for top 5 NBA picks each year. and it's not gonna prevent us from getting top 30 level classes with some 4* recruits. we've been doing that for a long time spanning multiple coaches. recruiting in the top 10 in the nation is probably an unrealistic goal...Gott did it for a year or two, but if you don't have the results, you're right...you can't consistently recruit that high. i don't think our fans demand yearly recruiting classes that are top 10 in the country, though. any coach worth his salt shouldn't have too much trouble getting consistent top 30-ish classes here. with the right coaching, that talent level is perfectly acceptable and perfectly capable of being a really strong program.

gott's recruiting style and reliance on transfers is unsustainable, i 100% agree.

^^I think by leaking it "unofficially" we can basically say we haven't publicly abandoned our coach mid-season to perspective coaches but it may help stave off any de-commits (like what we're seeing on Twitter) or help prevent transfers until after they know who the replacement will be. Makes sense to me.

sure. but it seems like, to me, the overall "health" of the athletic department is fine other than a shitty basketball coach and 2 shitty basketball season. don't get me wrong, i want football to be better to. but i'm not sure she should be fired over that. anyways...who cares, she was gonna retire in 2 years anyways. and if her pending retirement was preventing her from making certain coaching changes then she should either step down or be fired.

so we have a lame duck coach and a lame duck AD. how the hell do we go about getting a coach? seems like in this instance we'd be setting ourselves up for a shit show of a search
